Trumpet virtuoso Al Hirt delivers another energetic showcase on Cotton Candy, the 1964 follow-up to his enormously successful Honey in the Horn. Recorded at RCA Victor's famed “Nashville Sound” Studio, the album combines Hirt's bright, powerful trumpet with chorus and orchestra in a lively collection spanning jazz, Dixieland and popular standards.
The album features Hirt's hit rendition of “Cotton Candy,” along with “Hello, Dolly!,” “Django's Castle,” “Moo Moo,” “Last Date,” “Big Man,” “Walkin',” “Too Late (Trop Tard),” “Rumpus,” “Melissa,” “Walkin' with Mr. Lee” and “12th Street Rag.” Produced by Chet Atkins, the sessions bring together Hirt's New Orleans-rooted playing with some of Nashville's finest musicians.
A classic mid-1960s Al Hirt release from the period when his unmistakable trumpet sound was reaching its widest popular audience.
