New Orleans trumpet legend Al Hirt takes center stage on He's the King! and His Band, a lively RCA Victor recording showcasing the brilliant tone, technical command and larger-than-life playing that made Hirt one of America's most popular trumpet stars.

Recorded at RCA Victor's Studio A in New York City and produced by Steve Sholes, the album mixes jazz standards, traditional favorites and swinging arrangements. Selections include “I Love Paris,” “One O'Clock Jump,” “The Jitterbug Waltz,” “Jazz Me Blues,” “The King's Blues,” “Cornet Chop Suey,” “The Old Folks at Home,” “Christopher Columbus,” “Laura,” “Down by the Riverside” and “Three Little Words.”

Hirt is joined by a strong ensemble featuring clarinetist Jack Delaney, trombonist Bob Havens, pianist Ronnie Dupont, bassist Oliver Felix and drummer Paul Ferrara. A terrific example of Hirt's exuberant trumpet style and the New Orleans jazz tradition that shaped his career.
